Frequently asked questions.
Do you only train Pit Bulls, or can I bring my (fill in the blank)?
Yes, you can! Absolutely 100 percent! We advocate for the Pit Bull, but we train all breeds.
My dog is reactive. Can I bring him to class?
Whether your dog is shy or reactive, group training in a safe environment gives you a “real world” opportunity to learn and practice the “engagement and communication skills” taught by LARPBO.
Can you help me rehome my dog?
Unfortunately, at LARPBO, we do not have a facility to help with rehoming. We have found that the best solution is most often someone within your circle of family and friends, or someone they know.
Please keep posting on social media and recruit your family and friends. Hopefully, someone will step forward.
Speak LARPBO, Be LARPBO, Live Responsibly
Please find the updated Packwalk and Class Rules below. These guidelines are designed to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants and their dogs.
I. Collar Requirements and Equipment Backups
- Mandatory Security: All dogs must wear a secure collar upon entry.
- Preferred Type: Self-correcting collars (Slip leads, Martingale, Starmark, or prong collars) are recommended.
- Prong Collar Safety Protocol: Tools can fail, so having a backup ensures you are still connected to your dog. Prong collars must be secured with a backup mechanism (carabiner, double-ended leash, or slip collar). Assistance with setup is available before class.
- Harness Use: Harnesses are not recommended due to diminished control and increased risk of escape. Should a harness be used for medical reasons, it must be backed up with a flat or Martingale collar. Small “Toy” dogs, under 20 lbs, may use a harness due to the risk of injury to the neck.
II. Leash Requirements
- Prohibited Equipment: Retractable leashes are strictly prohibited.
- Recommended Equipment: A 4-foot leather or robust nylon leash is suggested.
III. Handler-to-Dog Ratio
- Limitation: A maximum of one dog per person.
- Handoffs: Only one handler at a time. Please ensure any handoffs are clearly communicated and done safely during breaks.
- Intro Series: For the Intro 2-class series, the same handler must be present for both sessions.
IV. Respect for Dog Tolerance
- No Physical Greetings: Nose-to-nose contact or sniffing between dogs is forbidden.
- Temperament Awareness: Please respect that many dogs are working on their tolerance levels. Give every dog space, regardless of their temperament.“My dog is friendly” is not appropriate at LARPBO events.
- Reactive Dog Identification: Yellow vests are available at the booth for reactive or aggressive dogs to alert other handlers.
V. General Conduct
- Waste Management: Owners must bring and use waste bags. Receptacles are located near the class area.
- Energy Management: We recommend walking or running high-energy dogs before class to help them focus.
